Selection Process

As per the official structure, the complete selection process includes:

  1. CBT 1 (First Stage Computer Based Test)
  2. CBT 2 (Second Stage Computer Based Test)
  3. Skill Test / Aptitude Test (depending on the post)
  4. Document Verification
  5. Medical Fitness Test

Each stage is important, and candidates must qualify one stage to move to the next.

RRB NTPC Graduate Exam Pattern 2025-2026

CBT 1 – First Stage Exam Pattern

CBT 1 is mainly a qualifying stage. It does not decide your final merit but it is very important because your entry to CBT 2 depends on this.

  • Total Questions: 100
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Negative Marking: Yes, one-third mark is deducted for every wrong answer
  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

Subject-wise break-up:

  • General Awareness: 40 questions
  • Mathematics: 30 questions
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 questions

The score of CBT 1 is used only for shortlisting candidates for CBT 2. Marks are normalized because the exam is held in multiple shifts.


CBT 2 – Second Stage Exam Pattern

CBT 2 is the real deciding stage for merit ranking. Its difficulty level is slightly higher compared to CBT 1.

  • Total Questions: 120
  • Total Marks: 120
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Negative Marking: One-third mark for every wrong answer
  • Question Type: MCQs

Subject-wise break-up:

  • General Awareness: 50 questions
  • Mathematics: 35 questions
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 35 questions

Performance in CBT 2 is very important because it decides whether you will move to the next level.


Skill Test / Aptitude Test

Typing Skill Test (TST)

Required for posts like Senior Clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist and similar roles.

  • Minimum typing speed required:
    • English: 30 words per minute
    • Hindi: 25 words per minute

Typing test is qualifying in nature.

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

Required for posts like Station Master and Traffic Assistant.

  • No negative marking
  • The candidate must score the minimum T-score fixed for each test battery

Marks of CBAT will be considered in the final merit only for the posts where it is applicable.
